GUIDLINES FOR SUBMISSION OF CHARITY PROJECTS FOR SUPPORT FROM

WEST LANCASHIRE MARK CHARITIES FUND

Applications are invited from any brother who believes he knows of a project worthy of support which is to be submitted together with all information required in the guidelines to his Charity Group Leader or Deputy in the first instance. Below are the guidelines.
John Sarti, Provincial Grand Charity Steward

The Mark Province of West Lancashire are extremely proud of its own charity fund, namely “The West  Lancashire Mark Charity Fund” (WLMCF) whose aims and objectives are to support worthy charitable projects providing benefit to the community in general or indeed to needy Mark Masons and their families where funding cannot be obtained from other Masonic Charities.

Please note that applications on behalf of needy Mark Masons and their families should be submitted via the Provincial Grand Almoner in the first instance.

Applications are invited and welcomed from any Mark Mason who knows of a project he believes is worthy of support by the Charity at any time during the year.

Projects should be submitted to the Charity Group Leader or Deputy in the first instance, who, if they believe the project is worthwhile, will forward it to the Provincial Grand Charity Steward for consideration by the Charity Executive and Trustees.

It should be noted that all projects must provide a benefit to the community in general and consist of provision of assets or equipment.
Monies will not be provided into a general administration account for the day to day overheads of any charity.

All submissions should be accompanied with the following information.

  • Is the beneficiary a registered charity? If so, obtain the registered charity number.

Note: The beneficiary does not have to be a charity.

  • An accurate and comprehensive description of the project such that it can receive a fair assessment by the Charity Executive.
  • Reasons why the mark mason submitting the project believes it is worthy of support, (e.g. In memory of a brother, a particular affinity with the cause, etc).
  • Details of the benefits to be gained from the project.
  • Estimate of total costs of project, together with details of funds already available or to be raised by the beneficiary.
  • Amount of money required from West Lancashire Mark Charity Fund and details of any donations already ring fenced for the project.
  • Details of any Mark Lodges in the respective Charity Group that support the project.
  • Timescales in which the project is to be completed.
  • Details of where grants are to be forwarded to if the project is approved and points of contact etc. in case of any queries arising.

The above guidelines will help the Executive to give a speedy and prompt response to the application.

Wherever possible for projects supported by the WLMCF, a formal presentation of the donation or equipment to the beneficiary should be considered, such that we may try and achieve as much publicity for the Mark Degree as possible.
Also, wherever possible, we would like to attach a plaque or label to the equipment stating that it has been presented by West Lancashire Mark Masons.
